MOVIE |
This is the second of the 3 John Grisham DVD's I have reviewed and I consider
this one to be the best of the lot. 2 Supreme Court Justice's have been assassinated by
someone and Darby Shaw (Julia Roberts) has written what is called The Pelican Brief, it is
a school report she writes detailing who did the murders, why, and how far up the
political ladder it goes.
She gives the brief to her lover, from there it makes it's way
to Washington. The report is so accurate that a price is on her head and also anyone that
reads it. She enlists the help of Grey Grantham (Denzel Washington) a Washington newspaper
reporter to find proof that what she has written is true and not get killed in the
process.
Packed with nail biting and highly dramatic scenes, a great music score by James
Horner and excellent acting by everyone in the movie. The Pelican Brief is the best
John Grisham
movie so far.

VIDEO |
The picture is very
crisp and clean also. In fact I will almost go as far to say it's reference quality. There
were no noticeable marks or artifacts in the print, and the dark scenes were well
rendered. Impressive.
The Pelican Brief is framed at 2:35:1 and is 16:9 enhanced.
This is a dual-sided,
single-layer disc.

AUDIO |
Dolby Digital 5.1 across the board, the sound seems very clear and the dialogue
was easy to hear. The surrounds got some good use during the action scenes and they were
also used for atmosphere in most scenes. The .1 channel peeped occasionally, when it was
used it underscored the more ambient scenes, although if there was an explosion in the
movie it would have a blast then.
|
EXTRAS |
Again rather skimpy. Theatrical trailer in
1:85:1, 16x9 enhanced with a DD2.0 soundtrack, good stuff there. But other
than that you just get the extra details like Production Notes and cast
notes.

FINAL THOUGHTS |
A top buy, an excellent movie, great transfer, good sound, nice trailer Heartily
recommended. Even if it is a flipper. |
