I have always been a fan of Rob Reiner
movies since When Harry Met Sally. Be it Comedy or Drama he always
knows how to make an entertaining movie.
Michael Douglas stars as President
Andrew Shepherd who falls in love with Sydney Ellen Wade (Annette
Benning) a political advisor.
Before his heart got the better of
him, Shepherd had a very high approval rating of over 60 percent,
now it's diving down quicker that a Japanese Kamikaze pilot.
The film also stars Richard
Dreyfuss as his slimy opponent and hopeful Presidential candidate
who will stop at nothing to smear Shepherds name.
The rest of Shepherd's cabinet is
rounded out by Martin Sheen, Michael J. Fox and David Paymer.
The American President is highly
recommended.

A little bit of a let
down on the video side. While not completely bad, it is not up to
the usual standards of Columbia/Tri-Star.
The transfer is
reasonably sharp but there are times when the transfer becomes quite
soft.
Shadow detail is
acceptable, as are the colors which are well rendered but not
perfect.
There were no MPEG
artifacts noted. There were quite a few film artifacts present in
the form of some grain, lines and specks at various times in the
movie.
The American President is framed at
2:35:1 and is 16:9 enhanced.
This is a single-sided, dual layer disc.
The layer change occurs at 56:20.

The American
President includes a front heavy Dolby Digital 5.1 audio mix.
There are quite a
few audio tracks on this disc in several languages. I listened to
the English track.
The surrounds are
used very minimally to underscore wonderful music and that is
about it. Most of the action is based at the center speaker which
is okay as this is a dialog driven movie.
The dialog was
always easy to hear on this movie.

included on this disc and are more than welcome.

| A wonderful and
enjoyable movie that is well acted and well directed. You could do
worse than this disc. |
