MOVIE |
It seems that after Aliens the next
series of sequels started the downward decline of the series.
While David Fincher's vision of
the franchise is not the worst, I'll leave that distinction to
Alien Resurrection, the third chapter in the series is rather
tepid and unexciting.
Set after the events in Aliens,
Ripley's ship that is also carrying Newt and Sgt. Hicks crash
lands on a prison planet with no weapons that is only inhabited by
criminals.
After her rescue Ripley and the
prisoners soon realize that there is an Alien running around
killing all the prisoners but leaving Ripley alone. She soon
becomes aware that she is a host for an Alien impregnated inside
of herself. Now Ripley must make the greatest of sacrifices.

VIDEO |
Yet again another sterling effort from
20th Century Fox. This is almost a reference quality transfer.
The transfer is razor sharp with
excellent colour definition. There were no MPEG artefacts visible
and there were very few film artefacts. Shadow detail was
sensational with a lot of detail also.
Alien 3 is framed at 2:35:1 and is
16:9 enhanced.
Alien 3 is a single sided, dual
layer disc. The layer change occurs at the 56:00 mark

AUDIO |
Remastered in Dolby Digital 5.1 sound, and 3
is yet again another good example of a 5.1 remix from it's original Dolby
SR format.
The sound stage is very dynamic and well
integrated. The surround channels were used aggressively which made for
some great aural effects. The .1 channel also was used constantly and
added that extra oomph when required.
Dialog was easy to hear at all times

quite interesting
