Mercury Rising: AC3 Laserdisc
Universal / 1998 / 112 Mins / Rated R

MOVIE
Bruce Willis plays Art Jefferies a renegade FBI agent who has been assigned to protect a young autistic boy named Simon.

His parents have been murdered and the government are after the boy's head, but why? Along the way 'ol Bruce discovers that Simon cracked a new secret government code called 'Mercury' If the code is compromised the entire intelligence community of the U.S. will be in jeopardy.

But at what cost? Will Bruce save the day? Or will Alec Baldwin and his cronies get the job done.

This movie is very hard to believe at times and there are enough plot holes to drive a very large truck through. Average.

VIDEO

For a Laserdisc, the video quality of the disc is quite good. Granted it doesn't look as good as the DVD version would look, but it's still a damn site better than a VHS version. Overall I'm happy with the transfer, it's generally clean and there are very few specks and noise in the print. The dark scenes seem to be very well rendered. Overall above average.

Mercury Rising is framed at 2:35:1 and is not 16:9 enhanced.

There are 2 sides on this Laserdisc.

AUDIO
Mercury Rising is encoded in Dolby Digital 5.1 and has a very effective surround field. The surround speakers were used to great effect and the .1 channel had a great workout. The bass kicks in this movie. Great stuff.
EXTRAS
As this is an LD you won't get many extras on these things. All that is on this disc is a Dolby Digital trailer and a THX trailer.
FINAL THOUGHTS
Not a bad disc, good quality picture and sound. And the inclusion of the DD5.1 & THX trailers really add to the movie like effect and make great demo material.
