Wild Things
Columbia / 1998 / 108 Mins / Rated MA15+

MOVIE
Wild Things is a strange twisted movie. It stars Matt Dillon as a guidance counselor who gets accused of raping two of his students, played by Neve Campbell and Denise Richards. To make things worse one of the girls is the daughter of a rich socialite who will stop at nothing to make sure he gets what's coming to him. Everyone turns there back on him and just when you think that he's going to be convicted for it one of the girls says that the rape was all a story to get him into to trouble because he wouldn't sleep with Kelly (Denise Richards). So now Matt is off the hook and all is well? Aha wait a minute the next thing we know is that Matt has one a compensation from the girls mother and he is going to move on with his life. Now it gets weirder, it all turns out that this was planned by the girls and Matt to get some money out of Kelly's mother and the scheming and double crossing begins. Lots o sex and an average story that just doesn't seem to interesting by the end. Good for the male 13-18 years segment though. Average.
VIDEO

This is one part of the disc I am impressed with though. The video quality is very impressive. Good work Roadshow. There were are few artifacts in the print, but nothing bad enough to mention. The colors were very rich and well rendered, there were a few scenes that seemed to have too much color, but again these are minor. High marks here.

Wild Things is framed at 2:35:1 and is 16:9 enhanced.

This is a single-sided, single layer disc.

AUDIO

There are a couple of sound formats on this one, English Dolby Digital 5.1 & MPEG 5.1, I listened to the DD5.1 track. The soundtrack itself was well recorded but it seemed too centralized toward the front of the soundstage, surrounds got some use during scenes with music and the subwoofer was used to underscore the music as well. Average.

At least the dialog was easy to listen to and very clear.

EXTRAS
There are a few extras on this disc. Firstly the theatrical trailer framed at 1:85:1 with Dolby Digital 2.0 sound. There are also cast notes on the disc as well. The box states that there are also interviews on the disc, but these are not present.
FINAL THOUGHTS
A good rental disc, but nothing really more than that.
