Volcano
20th Century Fox / 1997 / 100 Mins / Rated M15+

MOVIE
Hollywood loves disaster movies, so why not set one in it's home town.

Volcano is the sorry excuse for a movie about a Volcano that pops up like a pimple and begins destroying the city.

The only person who has control to fix the problem is Tommy Lee Jones. Sometimes I wonder what he was thinking when he took the role. Maybe he was blinded by the money they were going to throw him.

As you can tell I didn't like this movie at all. And I didn't really care what happened to the main characters. Some writers really should be shot!

VIDEO
An average transfer accompanies this disc. The transfer is quite soft throughout and there was quite a few MPEG artifacts throughout the movie. Film artifacts were also evident at various points during the movie.

Colors are well rendered though which is a small saving grace.

Volcano is framed at 1:85:1 and is 16:9 enhanced. The cover states that the movie is in 2:35:1 format. That is incorrect.

This disc is a single sided, dual layer disc. The layer change occurs at 51:43.

AUDIO
A Dolby Digital 5.1 surround track is included on this disc is impressive. The surrounds and .1 channel receive an absolute pummeling. The surrounds are well separated and sound steering is very good. Almost reference quality. The only downside to the disc is the occasional time when dialog is hard to understand.
EXTRAS

FINAL THOUGHTS
Terrible movie, below average disc.
