MOVIE |
Now I'm not usually a western watcher, in fact I hate them but, Unforgiven is a
movie which I consider the jewel in Clint Eastwood's movie career. The story revolves
around a small town called Big Whiskey in the 1880s. The town is run by the local sheriff
(Gene Hackman), who is one mean SOB. As the movie starts we witness a prostitute being
cut up by one of her customers, after the poor justice from Hackman, they hire some
assassins who are played by Morgan Freeman and Clint Eastwood to kill the offending men
and collect some much needed reward money. Top viewing. Now I know the review sounds
pretty weak but if I go deeply into the story I would give most of it away, and I don't
like to do that, besides it would probably take up about and extra page if I did.

VIDEO |
The video transfer is framed at 2:35:1 and is very crisp and clean with very
little noise and exhibits excellent color fidelity and the colors are on the whole very
rich, there are a few scenes that seem a little wanting but it's not that noticeable and
the shadow detail is great as it exhibits very little noise.

AUDIO |
I can't believe this is the same movie I watched a few months ago. The new Dolby Digital
5.1 mix sounds very impressive. The dialog sounds natural with good spatial integration.
The music and sound effects are also well mixed and present a very nice wide sound stage.

EXTRAS |
Extra's, well there really isn't that many on this disc, apart from a few
production notes, cast info and your obligatory scene access menus, I'm afraid that's your
lot with this disc. Very disappointing.

FINAL THOUGHTS |
A great movie and one that totally deserves the DVD treatment. Pity about the
lack of extras on the disc. Even if you don't like westerns, you will like this movie. |
