Turbulence
Cinergi / 1997 / 101 Mins / Rated M15+

MOVIE
This is one movie that's starts off good and then ends up just being totally absurd. It revolves around Lauren Holly an air stewardess who decides to steward a flight to get over the recent problems of here life with her last boyfriend, maybe she should have stayed at home. What was supposed to be an easy run of the mill flight with several passengers on board gets interesting when the police rock up with a few extra passengers, a serial killer and a rapist/murderer who are being transferred to L.A. for trial.

The serial killer is played by Ray Liotta, who really is in his element in these types of movies. By now you can guess what is going to happen as the filmmakers have the old book of movie plots out of the library and used every one of them. So now the serial killer has the plane, it goes through some typical action movie stuff and it is all up to Lauren Holly to stop someone who the cops haven't been able to stop since he started to murder people.

Attention DVD-ROM owners! After screwing up the mastering of this disc so that it wouldn't play on those drives, VR held off the release of this disc in a hope to fix the problem. But instead of doing that they decided to release the discs 6 months late and throw there balls in all DVD-ROM owners faces.

THIS IS NOT GOOD ENOUGH!

So now thanks to your own screw up you are abandoning one of your main markets as a lot of DVD owners in Australia have these drives. If you were serious about DVD in Australia you would have re-mastered the disc for the better than release a rubbish disc.
Get your act together quick Roadshow!

VIDEO

At least this is one pleasing aspect of the disc. The movies visuals are indeed good there were a couple of specs in the print but I believe this was a problem with the master and not the transfer. The dark scenes were well rendered and there was no noticeable MPEG artifacts.

Turbulence is framed at 1:85:1 and is 16:9 enhanced.

This disc is an RSDL disc, I could not find the layer change at all during the movie

AUDIO

As usual the movie has 2 audio formats Dolby Digital 5.1 & MPEG Multichannel 5.1, I listened to the DD5.1 soundtrack. The soundtrack itself was very clear and moderately aggressive. The surrounds were used quite extensively and the .1 channel was used to underscore the sound effects and music.

The dialog itself was seemed muddy, there were time when I had trouble understanding what was said, a little disappointing actually.

EXTRAS
Again the usual Roadshow fare, First the theatrical trailer which again as usual is in a window boxed 16:9 format with DD2.0 sound. The sound in this trailer is hideous, very muffled and sounds flat. There is also the usual Featurette and snippet interviews. Disappointing.
FINAL THOUGHTS
If you have a standalone player and like your standard run of the mill action flick with no surprises this one may be worth the purchase, but I would rent it beforehand.
