Trinity & Beyond & Atomic Filmmakers
VCE / 1995 / 92 & 52 Mins / Rated PG

MOVIE
With all my tirades towards Hollywood & movies these days it's great to see a Documentary that really lives up to it's promises.

Trinity & Beyond is a wonderful, albeit frightening 90 minute documentary that uses newly de-classified footage taken from government vaults and the music of the wonderful Moscow Symphony Orchestra.

Trinity & Beyond shows us how The U.S. was perfecting the means to destroy itself if necessary.

Narrated by William Shatner this is one movie/doco that deserves to be in every person's collection.

Atomic Filmmakers is an almost a making of documentary about the men that filmed these scary yet beautiful explosions all those years ago that is also very well done and is an great addition to this disc.

VIDEO
Concessions have to be made for this movie as a lot of the imagery used was locked up in a vault for close to 50 years.

Sharpness and shadow detail are lacking and there is quite a lot of film artifacts present but as said earlier because of the age of the material it could not be helped. Not the fault of the transfer.

On the whole though this disc has the best quality image it could muster and is quite impressive as it could have been MUCH worse.

Trinity & Beyond is a 4:3 Full Frame image.

This is a single sided, single layer disc.

AUDIO
Coming in to this disc I was expecting a flat mono presentation so I was quite surprised at the sound quality I received.

Encoded in Dolby Digital 2.0 this soundtrack is well designed. There is some surround use for the wonderful music as mentioned before and quite frequent use of the .1 channel to underscore the explosions. Dialog was easy to hear and well integrated into the sound mix

EXTRAS

Limited extras include production notes and cast & crew notes.

The only down side for me was the poor labeling of the discs features.

FINAL THOUGHTS
This is a sensational documentary on a well put together DVD. It's good to see a local independent distributor releasing quality product.
