MOVIE
The original Terminator was a delight in movie making. Original, fresh and full of action it became one of the most popular movies ever made. 7 years later James Cameron brought back the Terminator in one hell of a sequel that is in some respects better than the original. And that doesn't happen too often.

Being one of the most popular movies made ever, most people will probably have seen this movie, but for the few who haven't here's the plot. The T800 (Arnold Schwarzenegger) has come back from the future to save young teenager,  John Connor (Edward Furlong). In the future he becomes a  resistance leader of a group of human survivors. John  is responsible for the destruction of Skynet, a huge net of computers and robots responsible for the destruction of the human race in 1997. To stop this, Skynet have sent back the T-1000 (Robert Patrick) a liquid metal robot to kill John. This movie is filled with spectacular special effects and great sound. It also ushered in a new wave of special effects for the computer industry. Top stuff.

VIDEO
Again another wonderful transfer from CTHV. Like Total Recall, this disc was authored in France. The menus look like the same menus in Total Recall & The Fifth Element. Like those movies the picture quality is superb and almost of reference quality. The picture is very sharp and the shadow detail was excellent, also the colors were well saturated.

No MPEG artifacts were present at all. The original film print is also pristine and has no visible faults visible.

Terminator 2 is framed at 2:35:1 and is 16:9 enhanced.

This is an RSDL disc. The layer change occurs at 62:18.

AUDIO

An awesome 5.1 mix is encoded on this disc is very aggressive. The surrounds were forever being used and used very effectively. The .1 channel was also used frequently and made the movie thump along which added a lot more grunt to the soundtrack. This seems to be common with a James Cameron movie. He doesn't scrimp when it comes to sound design.

There are several sound formats on Terminator 2. An English Dolby Digital 5.1 and Dolby Digital 2.0 soundtrack. There is also a French MPEG 2.0 soundtrack on the disc which the disc annoyingly defaults to.

The dialog is always easy to listen to.

EXTRAS
This disc is very light on in the extras department & a bit of a disappointment on the extras side. All you get on this disc are...

Original Teaser Trailer: Encoded in Dolby Digital 2.0 in a window boxed mode that is 16:9 enhanced. The trailer is very unexciting which does not sell the movie overly well. It's a pity they do not include the proper theatrical trailer.

FINAL THOUGHTS
This is the best way to see Terminator 2 in the home. It's also the first time it has been available in Australia in it's original format. That said, the sound and picture quality is first rate. The extras are pathetic. But this is a small quibble. This is a great movie and a worthy purchase.
