MOVIE
Based on the Stephen King Novella, The Shawshank Redemption is the story of Andy Dufresne a banker who is sentenced to life in prison for the murder of his wife and her lover.

Here Andy meets Red a long term prisoner, the two men become close friends over the years. Directed by first time director Frank Darabont, Shawshank is a near perfect movie with a wonderful engaging story and wonderful acting. Sensational.

VIDEO
Thankfully The Shawshank Redemption has reference quality video here. The transfer is very sharp throughout and there was no MPEG or film artifacts present. Shadow detail was excellent and colors were well rendered.

The Shawshank Redemption  is framed at 1:85:1 and is 16:9 enhanced.

This is a single-sided, dual-layer disc.

The layer change occurs at the 79:47.
AUDIO

While not reference quality the soundtrack is still perfect for the type of movie. The surround channels were only used very lightly for music and the .1 channel was DOA. The front sound stage was very good and the dialog was crisp, clean and easy to hear.
