Priscilla: Queen Of The Desert
Village / 1994 / 104 Mins / Rated M15+

MOVIE
Funny flick actually, this is the story of 3 drag queens who hit the road on their way to Alice Springs to play in a show of their own.

Along the way the encounter, rejection, misunderstanding and violence from all the locals at the towns they pass through. The 3 are played brilliantly by Hugo Weaving, Terrence Stamp and Guy Pearce.

Oh and or course there's the bus as well. Take some getting used to, but the music is great and there's more than a few laughs in it.

VIDEO

Can I scream now, Roadshow what are you doing? Yet another movie in Pan & Scan, when will you guys learn. For starters the movie was released in a format of about 2:35:1 so your losing a heap of the picture. On the quality side also, I found quite a few problems with the transfer.

1. There was quite a lot of MPEG noise in the print

2. It also seemed as if the flesh colors were a little out as well.

Please Roadshow don't waste your time with P&S shit, do the proper thing and release your movies in the proper widescreen format.

Priscilla is framed in 4:3 Pan & Scan format. You loose so much picture it's not funny!

This is a single-sided, single-layer disc.

AUDIO

Again another wrongly labeled disc, the only sound formats on the disc are Dolby Surround and MPEG 2, but it does sound quite good, the surround speakers get a little workout, mainly when the music tracks are playing.

EXTRAS
Scene selections, trailer and a featurette, so not overly bad on the extra side, it's actually a lot like the Shine DVD, but again not subtitles or production notes, just cast notes.
FINAL THOUGHTS
A terrible buy, but the fact that it is P&S puts me off somewhat, there's a few extras to push it up a couple of steps, it also could have done with some extra chapters, but that's about it.
