MOVIE

One True Thing is the story of Ellen Gulden an up & coming writer for a New York newspaper.

On a trip home for the weekend she finds out from her father George (William Hurt) that her mother Katherine (Meryl Streep) has cancer. George asks his daughter if she will come home and look after her mother, reluctantly she agrees.

Being closer to her father than mother things at first seem a little strained between them both but as the movie progresses they become closer and a closer bond builds between them both as the mother gets more I'll.

A sad weepie of a movie that is very well done.

VIDEO
Wow a Columbia transfer that is not perfect! The transfer of One True Thing seems very soft for a movie only made last year! There seems to be quite some noise in the picture in the darker scenes. Although not as bad as some transfer from other companies it still isn't as good a some other CTHV discs I have seen. I hope this is a one off.

One True Thing is framed at 1:85:1 and is 16:9 enhanced.

This is an RSDL disc but I could not tell on my player where the switch was.

This is a single-sided, dual layer disc.

AUDIO

There are several audio formats on this disc. An English 5.0 soundtrack and several 2.0 soundtracks that are not listed on the packaging. This isn't a sound immersing movie. The sound mainly comes from the front soundstage with the surrounds only coming into play when there are ambient sounds and music in the background. The .1 channel didn't peep once.

The dialog was clear throughout.

EXTRAS
Again not many extras here. You get the theatrical trailer and production notes. The End
FINAL THOUGHTS
Weepie movie and an ordinary sound & video transfer put this into the rental category than the purchase category.
