MOVIE
Here it is, Steven Spielberg's seminal movie release and one of his first mega hits. The movie was indeed so big that it started the summer blockbuster season as we know it today. Released simultaneously world wide this disc is a benchmark for DVD releases and it's great to see older movies being given the treatment they deserve.
VIDEO
Okay 25 years old and this transfer has some minor film artifacts present but this isn't enough to deny this is a reference quality transfer as the amount of work that has gone into the restoration process is nothing short of remarkable.

Shadow detail was excellent as was color detail which was well saturated without being overly done. There were no MPEG artifacts present at all and the transfer was sharp throughout.

Jaws is framed at 2:35:1 and is 16:9 enhanced.

This is a single-sided, dual layer disc. The layer change occurs at 89:20.
AUDIO

Jaws was re-mastered in Dolby Digital 5.1 sound. While impressive and more than welcome it is not as engaging as a modern soundtrack but still sounds very impressive and I have never heard it this good before.

The soundtrack is based towards the front soundstage and the surrounds are sparingly used for underscoring of the soundtrack and some surround effects. The .1 channel is used intermittently.

A very nice selection of extras here.

Behind The Scenes Documentary: A sensational 50 minute documentary about the making of the film and the troubles encountered. It is very informative and a more than welcome addition to the disc. Dolby Digital 2.0, 4:3 format.

Deleted Scenes: About 10 minutes long this section features about 10 deleted scenes. Another good addition. Dolby Digital 2.0, 2:35:1 ratio.

Theatrical Trailers: 3 theatrical trailers at varying aspect ratios from 2:35:1 to 4:3 format. Dolby Digital 2.0 sound.
