MOVIE |
Gripping stuff, a U.S. marine is killed in a hazing ceremony by 2 enlisted
officers and Guantonamo Bay, Cuba. The men claim that they were just following the orders
of their base commander Col. Jessup, played with great skill by Jack Nicholson in one of
his best roles.
He and his other officers claim they did it as revenge for the marine
informing on them, who is right? Well that question must be answered by Tom Cruise and
Demi Moore who are assigned to defend the 2 suspected marines and try to uncover an info
they can, even if it means bringing down a high ranking officer.
Also great in the cast is
Kevin Bacon as the prosecuting attorney and in a very small role Cuba Gooding, JR as a
testifying marine. Check it out.

A Few Good Men is very clear and that seems to be
the norm with all the Columbia Tri-Star discs so far. The movie has excellent color
fidelity and natural flesh tones. The dark are also generally good, although there are a
few scenes in which there is some distracting noise in them.
This is a single sided, single layer
disc.
A Few Good Men is framed at 2:35:1 and
is 16:9 enhanced.

AUDIO |
Well
what can I say about the sound in the movie, it's only encoded in 2 channel MPEG or Dolby
Surround. While not a bad thing, it's not the best type of sound I would expect from this
new format, that is something I would accept from and VHS release of the movie. While on
the whole it's sounds acceptable for this type of courtroom drama, there doesn't seem to
be as much going on in the rear surround channels as the NTSC Dolby Digital LD version
that is knocking around.

EXTRAS |
What extras, scene access, DVD trailer and Language selection. Whoopee do.
|
FINAL THOUGHTS |
A great film with an excellent picture but the rest seems pretty disappointing.
Really only for the Nicholson fan or if you love the movie. It's doesn't make the best
show off disc though.
