After a 6
year absence from the screens the 17th installment of the James
Bond movies returned with a bang and a new Bond which ultimately
became the highest grossing Bond movie to date.
The new James Bond was of course
Pierce Brosnan and a popular Bond he is at that. With the success
of his 3rd outing as Bond in The World is Not Enough I thought I
would look back at another one of the earlier DVD releases.
Goldeneye.
The movie begins seven years earlier
as we are slowly introduced to the new bond. James has to destroy
a Russian base. Joined by his best friend and fellow 00 agent 006.
006 is murdered and 007 gets away. We fast forward 7 years and
find that Bond now has a lady boss and is now battling different
enemies. Gone a the usual Russian enemies, now we have private
terrorists.
A secret Russian weapon system
called Goldeneye has been stolen and is going to be used against
the world for ransom, pay up or London gets it. Upon investigation
Bond realizes that his old friend 006 alive and behind it all.
Now best friends have become worst
enemies and the clock is counting down. Can Bond save the day yet
again? The only downside I have with the movie is that we get the
edited British version and not a full uncut version. Filled with great action sequences, lush camerawork and
snappy one-liners this movie make for one of the best Bond movies
yet.
