Earthlight is not a full on
action/science fiction movie. If you want that get Armageddon. If
your after a great relaxing disc with wonderful views of our little
planet this is it.
Earthlight begins straight off with
views of the planet Earth with relaxing music by Ryan Shore in the
background in full 5.1 sound. You can watch these earth views with
or without subtitles. You can also select different Earth views from
the menus.
The best part of this disc though
is the wonderful lift off of the space shuttle. Once selected from
the menu the countdown starts slowly and quietly, but one the
engines start it's a full on assault on your speakers. Wonderful.

This transfer is not without it's
problems. A lot of the footage for this was done on video and not
film so it does not look as good as it could. There are also some
MPEG artifacts present, there were no film artifacts present. Earthlight:
Special Edition is framed at 4:3 and is not 16:9 enhanced.
This is a single sided, single
layer disc.

A Dolby Digital 5.1 sound track
adorns this disc. While it is sensational during the launch
sequence and is of demo quality, the rest of the disc's music
score is well encoded but is nothing sensational and does the job
much better than a standard stereo track.
