Die Hard: With A Vengeance
20th Century Fox / 1995 / 128 Mins / Rated M15+

MOVIE
Well here we  go again. Bruce Willis is back to save the day as John McClane in Die Hard 3. This one involves the heist of the federal reserve in New York City by a German terrorist named Simon.

Simon has been planting bombs around New York and getting Bruce to run around stopping them to keep him busy because Simon is really not holding the city to ransom, he is stealing all the money from the federal reserve in New York!

After the crap that was Die Hard 2, it is great to see John McTiernan (Die Hard, Last Action Hero) directing again and in doing so making the franchise fun again. Ignore the plot holes and enjoy the action. Great fun stuff.

VIDEO

What happened. This transfer is way below the transfers I saw in Analyze This and Lost in Space. The transfer seems soft for most of the way through and there are quite a few MPEG artifacts on the print as well. Shadow detail was fine as were the colors. There also seems to be some shimmering in some scenes.

Die Hard: With A Vengeance is framed at 2:35:1 and is 16:9 enhanced.

This is a Single Sided, Dual Layer disc. The layer change is very shabbily placed at around the 107 minute mark. You can't miss it, Roadshow have placed a bloody fade to black in an action scene which interrupts the flow of the movie.

AUDIO

Audio was a hit and miss affair. The first few minutes seemed to echo during the opening song. After the first explosion the sound settled. The surrounds were used heavily as was the .1 channel.

The dialog was easily understandable.

EXTRAS

An average set of extras here. On top of the cast bios and interviews you get...

Theatrical Trailer- DD2.0 sound, framed at 2:35:1 and is of poor quality. Sounds mono. Sells the movie well though.

Music Video-  This is the song Summer in the City from The Lovin' Spoonful. Again DD2.0 but sounds mono.

FINAL THOUGHTS
Only average quality disc here. Could have been better. Really only worth getting if you are wanting to get the other 2 movies from Fox next year to complete a set.
