Courage Under Fire
20th Century Fox / 1996 / 122 Mins / Rated M15+

MOVIE
Courage Under Fire is a wonderful movie from Edward Zwick, Director of Glory and The Siege.

The story revolves around Gulf war veteran Colonel Nathaniel Serling a man with his own demons. He has been assigned to investigate a soldier who is to receive the Medal Of Honor Posthumously and in doing so would make Karen Waldman (Meg Ryan) the first woman to receive the Medal Of Honor.

Slowly Colonel Serling unravels the mystery behind her death while at the same time confronting some of his own personal demons.

This is a wonderful movie with an involving storyline, good acting and a wonderful music score by James Horner. You know you can practically hear parts of titanic in the score.

VIDEO
You couldn't get much better. This is a reference quality transfer.

Courage Under Fire is ultra sharp and the colors were perfect considering the way the movie was intended to look, I believe. Shadow detail was second to none. There were no visible MPEG or film artifacts at all.

Courage Under Fire is framed at 1:85:1 and is 16:9 enhanced.

This disc is a single sided, dual layer disc. The layer change is undetectable on my player. Well placed.

AUDIO
The Dolby Digital 5.1 track on this disc is yet another assault on one's setup with a constant barrage of use in the surrounds and .1 channel and only comes just short of reference quality.

The only thing that knocks this disc down a bit in score is because of the occasional scene where it is hard to hear the dialog and the fact that some of the dimensional effects in the surrounds didn't seem rendered properly for some scenes.

EXTRAS
You know even though there aren't many extras at least Fox are consistent with there extras.

Theatrical Trailer: Dolby Digital 2.0 surround, 1:33:1 video. A wonderfully done trailer even if a little limited technically.

FINAL THOUGHTS
A grade movie and a sensational disc.
