A Bug's Life is pure classic
Disney. Made by Pixar of Toy Story fame it's the story of a group of
ants who are being bullied by a group of grasshoppers. One lone ant
named Flick goes into a wonderfully constructed ant version of New
York to hire "warrior bugs" to stop the grasshoppers. Once
they arrive at the ant colony Flick realizes that they are not
"warrior bugs" but circus clowns. Now Flick and his new
friends have to come up with a plan to beat the grasshoppers at
their own game.

This has to be the best transfer seen on
DVD, EVER! Created directly
from the original digital source without the intervention of film, A Bug's
Life looks absolutely sensational. There were no MPEG artifacts whatsoever
and film artifacts did not exist as this was a digital transfer. Shadow
detail was sensational and the colors were exceptional. This is far and
above reference quality! Side A of
A Bug's Life is framed at a 4:3 full frame version and side B is framed at
the original 2:35:1 and is 16:9 enhanced.
This is an flipper disc, but the flip
only separates the two different versions so this is acceptable.

A very nice 5.1 track that is very
immersive. The surrounds get some good use as does the .1 subwoofer
channel. Sound steering was sensational as is expected as A1 sound
designer Gary Rydstrom was responsible for this soundtrack.

Amazingly this Buena Vista disc has extras,
not many mind you but it's a start.
Outtakes - Two sets of quite funny
outtakes that run nearly 3 minutes.
Short Feature - Geri's Game is a
short Oscar winning film about an old man who plays Chess by himself in a
New York park. Great!
