MOVIE |
What your about to see in Big Daddy is the Adam Sandler way of
parenting and you will love every minute of it. The story is about Sonny
Koufax (Adam Sandler) who is a 32 year old child. He spends his days
sleeping and when he's not sleeping he's going down to Central Park
to see roller blader's falling down! Into his life comes Julian a young
child who is supposedly his best friend's child. One problem, his friend
is in China.
Sonny decides to look after the kid by acting as his father
to social services, now things as normal as trick or treating have
hysterical results. We also learn the Adam Sandler technique for cleaning
up spills and bedwetting also. Anyhow, Sonny grows to love the kid and
wants to adopt him but there is one problem, the law thinks he's kidnapped
Julian and he risks losing the kids he has grown to love.
Look out for 2
great performances by Rob Schneider as the delivery man with a spelling
problem and Steve Buscemi as the local bum! Fun Stuff. Sausage McMuffin
anyone?????

Being
a Columbia disc this is a pretty fine transfer. Very sharp and crisp. The
colors are rich and vibrant and the contrast is spot on. No MPEG artifacts
were present. The only downside to the transfer is the fact that it is in
NTSC format which doesn't have a good a resolution as PAL.
Side A of Big Daddy is framed at 1:85:1 and is 16:9 enhanced,
again like most US DVD's the bars are not even exactly level on the screen, although you
don't notice that in anamorphic mode. Side B is framed at a 4:3 full screen
ratio.
This is a dual-sided, single layer disc,
with the Letterbox version on side A and the 4:3 version on side B.

AUDIO |
Straight DD5.1 and 2.0 on this one. While not the most amazing
soundtrack in the world the surrounds do get a call in during scenes with
ambient music. This is mainly a dialogue movie so high surround use isn't
really needed anyhow. My .1 channel is receiving counseling as it felt
unappreciated by this movie as it didn't seem to use the channel at all.
At least the center channel was very
clear.

EXTRAS |
There is a good helping of extras on this disc. Firstly you get a
13 minute HBO first look Documentary. Next up are 2 music videos by Cheryl
Crow & Garbage. There are also 2 theatrical trailers in 4:3 format in
DD5.1 sound which are very funny. There are also trailers for the upcoming
movie Dick and a trailer for the 15th anniversary Ghostbusters DVD. The
extras are rounded out with some basic cast notes. Subtitles include
Closed Captions.
